McLamb Family Union

The first family reunion was held at Edgar McLamb home in the Keener Community of Sampson County in early 1950. Edgar died in 1997 at the age of 107. Dublin was his grandfather and he lived with him as a boy. Edgar is the son of Susan. William and Dale were his brother and sister. Dale also lived to be 104 years old. William was in his late 90 when he died. For so many years he was the oldest who gave us our history. I first interviewed him in 1984 and he gave me the starting point to research the family tree. He remembered details about his grandfather that was born a slave. Talking with Edgar was like reading a book. It was like turning a page each time he spoke. Each visit was the start of a new chapter. Edgar's life story will not be put on a shelf like a book. His memory will remain in our hearts forever and be told to all our generations to come.
Henry McLamb was a founder of the family reunion. He instilled the importance of family gatherings and to keep family close. He looked forward to the family reunion each year. Henry died in 1984 at the age of 83 one day before his 84th birthday. Henry also lived with Dublin as a child. He did not have a lot of memories of his grandfather. Henry was the son of Minnie, the youngest daughter of Dublin and Eliza Jane McLamb. Henry was married to Evada McPhail.
Isaac McLamb was the son of Alexander McLamb, and his mother was Lydia Hobbs. Isaac lived in Sampson County all his life. He was married Penny Annie Surles. To this union ten children were born. He used to tell his children and grandchildren about how his mother was chopped in the head with a hoe by a white man just because she chopped up a hill of cotton.
Isaac's son Deames McLamb assisted the founders with the McLamb Family Reunion back in the early 1950's.
