Dublin McLamb and Eliza Jane Hobbs
DUBLIN MCLAMB was born about 1835 in the north central part of the county--between Clinton and Newton Grove in the Halls Township. They lived in a community called Hobbstown. Dublin died before 1910. He married Eliza Jane Hobbs, born about 1837. They married legally in 1866 after living as husband and wife for 15 years earlier. She died before 1900.
The 1870 Census was the first Census to list all blacks or former slaves by name. Dublin McLamb was first found in the 1870 Census with his family. He was a farmer and Eliza Jane’s occupation was recorded as "keep house."
Dublin McLamb lived to be about 75 years of age. He is buried in the Keener area in an unmarked grave. The exact location of the grave has not been found, but Edgar knew the general location in or about where Dublin is buried.
This information is supported by the US Census, Sampson County Public Records and a family interview with Edgar McLamb in 1984.
