In these fast-paced, high tech, and modern times when it appears that we are losing touch with the value of strong family ties and the solid foundation of our identity, tracing and recording our ancestry can become a link to the past that will keep us focus on tomorrow. A link that will help use continue and establish new bonds with family members we never met with events that are locked in another time, beyond our reach and understanding. A family pedigree will unravel a unique history of a personal generational drama.
For example...
I couldn't get Cousin Dorene to give me the scoop on Susan in 2003. In talking with someone at the 4th Annual Susan McLamb Family Reunion on August 6, 2005 in Goldsboro, I mention to one of her great granddaughters and told her that one of my cousin said she had heard some interesting stories about Susan's children when she was a child, but she would not tell me. The person quickly said was it that all her children fathers were white except one. They further told me that she got land from all of them. It must have been true because she divided land equally to each child of 3-1/2 acres. I told Dorene about this and she just laughed...still telling me nothing...
My grandmother's sister Daisy was 98 years old when asked about going to school. A CYF youth group visited her and in talking with her she told the youth that there were no school buses when she attended school. They had to walk over a mile to school. She told that you only had to complete the 11th grade to graduate. She also stated that she had to stay with people to attend high school in Clinton. My Aunt Daisy turned 100 years old on March 5, 2007. She died a year later at age 101.
In talking with a family member I have now met for the second time, Maxine Howard, who enlighten me to the fact that one of our descendants prophesied. She was told that when Lydia started fasting and praying, you had better watch out. Just by this oral account, there is a lot of great stories out there and we hope you will all share your family stories with us for our Family Reunion History Book.
